Carbon Rod Evaporation Unit - This unit has provided excellent results in all types of evaporators throughout the electron microscopy community for many years. A combination of
ball-bearing motion in the chuck, gravity and long-arc spring-feed give uniform pressure that ensures a smooth, uniform advance of the carbon rod. This smooth motion allows use of a
lower current, with a consequent reduction of radiant heat. Designed to hold 1/8" diameter carbon rods. Includes one package of 10 rods.

Carbon Evaporation Shield - Keeps bell jar clean to provide accurate observation of specimen throughout evaporation. Short circuiting of electrodes by deposited carbon is greatly reduced,
as is cleanup time for the entire bell jar. The shield consists of an annealed Pyrex tube mounted between two aluminum discs supported by arms of the carbon evaporation unit. Pyrex glass tube has a precisely
proportioned slot to control the flow of carbon to the specimen. this fire-polished tube can easily be removed for cleaning, and will not crack from heat generated during evaporation. Complete mounting
instructions included. |

30160 |
Low Temperature Thermocouple Feed-Through - A necessary accessory for the Ladd Vacuum Evaporator if you intend to do low temperature work requiring a thermocouple feed-through. The feed
through is factory-installed, therefore should be ordered with evaporator. |
$350.00 |
60975 |
Dual Shielded Double Source Evaporation Unit - Designed specifically for use in scanning electron microscopy. Consists of a heavy nickel plated brass base with securely positioned two
sets of upright posts. One set of posts has an extension attachment to hold a carbon evaporation source and the other set holds tungsten basket for metal evaporation. Both sources are shielded by a single
annealed Pyrex tube with a carefully proportioned slot in the bottom to enable evaporated material to flow to the specimen. Carbon and metal can be evaporated during a single pump-down. Keeps bell jar clean
to allow accurate observation of entire process, and saves clean up time. |

Carbon / Graphite Rods & Points |
|
The Differences between Carbon and Graphite Rods:
- Made from carbon powder. Formed in a furnace at about 900o C. This results in a harder, less crystalline
(amorphous) structure. It is dark inappearance and is harder than graphite.
Graphite - made from carbon powder, formed in a furnace at 2500oC or higher which results in a more crystaline structure.
It's appearance is silver gray, is softer and you can write with it.
Ladd carbon and graphite are both spectroscopically pure with < 2 PPM impurities. We recommend the following: Graphite Rods - For
TEM/SEM applications such as coated grids. It provides a smoother, more even film. Technical Grade Graphite - For metal and plastic coating where purity is less critical
. Tips for Evaporation
- If graphite and rods or points are the exact same dimensions it will take a higher current to evaporate graphite because of it's crystalline structure
- Be Sure to use blanks that are the same material as your rods
- Graphite film is extremely stable and produces an extremely even film thickness. It is recommended for TEM/SEM applications
- Ladd Graphite / Carbon Rods are CVP purity with impurities of
less than 2 ppm
