The following diagram illustrates a monitoring strategy for apple pests:
|
1. Five weeks after petal fall, hang a trap on the south side of a tree
(see the black X on the diagram) at eye level, using one trap per planting up to one acre.2. Check the trap daily. Keep a log of the number of flies captured. 3.
Apply an approved spray 7 days after the first fly is caught. Repeat sprays at 10 to 14 day intervals if flies continue to be captured. |
The following diagram illustrates a trap out strategy for apple maggot fly. Please Note - This strategy only works for apple maggot fly and
only for those orchards that have received successful pest management during the previous two years:

1. One trap in each wild (hawthorn) or abandoned tree (see the red X's on the diagram)
within 300 to 400 yards of the orchard perimeter.2. One trap every 100 feet (see the black X's on the diagram)
of the outside row of the orchard perimeter (especially near possible sources of migration).3. A minimum of one trap per acre throughout the interior of the orchard block. |
