A combination of ball-bearing motion in the chuck, gravity and long-arc spring-feed give uniform pressure that ensures a smooth, uniform advance of the carbon rod. Shield displayed on a carbon rod evaporation unit

30180 - Carbon Evaporation Shield

Keeps bell jar clean to provide accurate observation of specimen throughout evaporation. Short circuiting of electrodes by deposited carbon is greatly reduced, as is cleanup time for the entire bell jar. The shield consists of an annealed Pyrex tube mounted between two aluminum discs supported by arms of the carbon evaporation unit. Pyrex glass tube has a precisely proportioned slot to control the flow of carbon to the specimen. this fire-polished tube can easily be removed for cleaning, and will not crack from heat generated during evaporation. 60975 - Dual Shielded Double Source Evaporation Unit

Designed specifically for use in scanning electron microscopy. Consists of a heavy nickel plated brass base with securely positioned two sets of upright posts. One set of posts has an extension attachment to hold a carbon evaporation source and the other set holds tungsten basket for metal evaporation. Both sources are shielded by a single annealed Pyrex tube with a carefully proportioned slot in the bottom to enable evaporated material to flow to the specimen. Carbon and metal can be evaporated during a single pump-down. Keeps bell jar clean to allow accurate observation of entire process, and saves clean up time.

This variable speed unit, which rotates in the horizontal plane only, is excellent for coating SEM specimens where multiple evaporation sources are used and uniformity of coating is not critical. Equipped with the same motor and motor housing as the tilting model, it requires the same D.C. power supply, which gives the platform a continuously variable speed from 3 to 120 rpm. This unit may also be used as a variable speed rotary shadower in transmission electron microscopy, if only one evaporation source is used. Unit sold without power supply.

Tilting Variable Speed Rotary Coater with Platform - 60825 - 60825

Compact coater, specifically designed to prepare scanning electron microscopy specimens; features simplicity of design and ease of operation. It can be installed in (and removed from) any vacuum evaporator in just seconds. The tilting motion through 90o, with associated processing, plus use of a moving top shield and a fixed vertical shield, ensures uniform coating of the specimen being rotated. Without these shields, uniform coating is impossible to obtain, a fact confirmed by densitometer readings of coated specimens examined with TEM. Such uniformity of coating thickness is essential for accurate interpretation of resulting micrographs. The motor is enclosed in a vacuum-tight, lightweight metal housing, thus eliminating pump-down problems associated with D.C. motors in vacuum. Operation requires a 0-15 volt, D.C. power supply outside the vacuum, which gives the platform a continuously variable speed from 10 to 120 rpm. Instructions included. Unit sold without power supply.
