Flash Point - <20EF

General Hazard - May be ignited by heat, sparks or flames. Vapors may travel to a source of ignition and flash back. Container may explode in heat of fire. Vapor explosion hazard indoors, outdoors or in sewers. Runoff to sewer may create fire or explosion hazard.

Fire Fighting Procedure - Use dry chemical, CO2, water spray or alcohol-resistant foam. Do not use dry chemical extinguishers to control fires involving nitromethane or nitroethane. Move container from fire area if you can do it without risk. Apply cooling water to sides of containers that are exposed to flames until well after fire is out.

HEALTH HAZARD DATA

Overview - Repeated exposures to high vapor concentrations may cause irritation of the respiratory system and nervous system damage. Intentional misuse by deliberately concentrating and inhaling the contents can be fatal.

Skin Contact - May cause irritation

Inhalation - May be harmful. Vapors and mists irritate eyes, nose and throat.

 

EMERGENCY AND FIRST AID

Ingestion - Do not induce vomiting. Call a physician.

Skin Contact - Flush immediately with plenty water, followed by washing with soap and water.

Eye Contact - Flush eyes immediately with plenty water for at least 15 minutes.

Inhalation - Remove patient to fresh air. Apply artificial respiration and other supportive measures as required. Consult a poison center, emergency room or lung specialist for additional information and guidance.

SPILL, DISPOSAL AND STORAGE INFORMATION

Storage Temperature and Pressure - Ambient temperature and atmospheric pressure. Keep container closed. Loosen closure cautiously before opening. Store in a cool and well ventilated place away from incompatible materials. Keep away from heat, sparks and flame. Protect material from direct sunlight. Ground and bond containers when transferring materials.

Spill - Shut off ignition sources. Stop leak if you can do it without risk. Take up with sand or other noncombustible absorbent material and place into containers for later disposal.

Disposal - Dispose of in accordance with local, state and federal guidelines.

 

PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT AND CONTROL MEASURES

Engineering Controls - Mechanical ventilation should be sufficient to maintain exposure below TLV.

Eye Protection - Vapor tight chemical splash goggles should be worn when the possibility exists for eye contact due to splashing or spraying of liquid or the generation of airborne particles or vapors.

Skin Protection - Wear gloves constructed of materials which are appropriate to prevent contact with the chemicals listed in this MSDS.
