These unitized polyethylene molds have been used quite successfully for holding embedding medium plus specimen material during polymerization prior to ultramicrotomy. Each mold unit makes 10 numbered blocks, 8 mm in diameter, the equivalent of #00 embedding capsules. These blocks have a pyramid-shaped tip 1 mm square, which requires little or no trimming.
