Keeps bell jar clean to provide accurate observation of specimen throughout evaporation. Short circuiting of electrodes by deposited carbon is greatly reduced, as is cleanup time for the entire bell jar. The shield consists of an annealed Pyrex tube mounted between two aluminum discs supported by arms of the carbon evaporation unit. Pyrex glass tube has a precisely proportioned slot to control the flow of carbon to the specimen. this fire-polished tube can easily be removed for cleaning, and will not crack from heat generated during evaporation.
