The alumina ceramic coated tungsten evaporation basket is an internally heated crucible that is designed to provide the means for vacuum evaporation of a number of various metals, and at the same time provide a more useful crucible life with these type metals.

Providing strongly upward evaporation in the deposition profile, these tungsten/alumina crucibles maintain molten metal evaporants as an induction propelled spinning ball inside the cavity. Most materials can be completely evaporated without loss to the chamber. Recommended evaporant materials are nickel, iron, or their alloys, as well as a broad range of other metals, such as gold, tin, indium and silver. Other materials which can be evaporated include antimony, bismuth, cadmium, cobalt, copper, lead, manganese, palladium, zinc and alloys such as nichrome and permalloy.

Tungsten Basket Evaporation Shields

A shield greatly reduces deposits of evaporated metals on the electrodes and bell jar, yet allows clear observation of the amount on the specimen. Special features of each unit are:

  • Two side arms which fit filament posts, each supporting a chrome-plated disc. 
  • An annealed Pyrex tube which slides over the discs and is held securely in place by a coiled spring. 
  • A precisely sized slot in the tube, which aligns accurately with a hole in the metal shield held in place beneath the slot, allowing controlled passage of evaporated metal to specimens. 
  • Pyrex tube and metal shield can be rotated, permitting coating or shadowing from any angle. 
  • Pyrex tubing will not crack from heat generated during evaporation. 

Complete instructions included with each unit.

The Replacement Tube is Annealed Pyrex. Extra tubes are helpful, since one can be in use while others are being cleaned. All edges are fire polished.

Short circuiting of electrodes by deposited carbon is greatly reduced, as is cleanup time for the entire bell jar. The shield consists of an annealed Pyrex tube mounted between two aluminum discs supported by arms of the carbon evaporation unit.
